If you were given the privilege would you create longer school days (more than 5 hours) for child soldiers? How would you do it?

In response to Rachel R's question:
Yes, I think it would be good to create a school day that is at most 6 or 7 hours even. A way we could accomplish it would be to have teachers really dedicate their time to their students and be willing to stay for 6 or 7 hours to teach. In order to get those teachers, we would probably have an organization funded by the world bank or UNESCO, that would dedicate the money to having more schools built in countries where war is a problem, and have the schools built in communities. If the schools are built in the communities, then there is the higher chance children will have a safer route to school, and dont run the risk of getting kidnapped to be put in a militia. The organization would educate teachers so that they would be able to teach correctly. To enforce and make sure that children go to school, there would be laws that say children from ages 4-15 must be in school from 8:00 am until 3:00 pm, as an example

In your presentation, your group stated that on a daily basis, children would recieve 4 hours of education and they would work for 6 hours daily. Why are the work hours more? Would the education eventually overpower the work hours if the world gets on task with their hopes for education?

What would you do to make the safe zones safer?

darilg said...

In response to jamie we would hire a team of plolice or peace keepers to protect these zones. We would also have certain rules that everyone in the safe zone would have to go by.

What rules would a "safe school zone" include, and how would you keep those "zones" safe?

How will you make sure that governments and people abide by the laws that the children have to get an education?

rachel f said...

Which countries would you focus on putting the safe zones in?

Alex G. said...

You said that to fund your projects you will take a certain percent from each countries income. What is the percentage and what are you going to do if one of the nations is in debt or in economic failure.

Where would yo get the funding to provide the salary money paid to the families that are losing a working child, so that that child can have an education?

How do you intend to keep families from keeping their children home from school where they need their children to work and support their family?

During your presentation you said you would make all schools a safe place for children to be, and to learn. How would you ensure safety at schools?

In response to David P :
To ensure that safe zones stay safe, we would place military around the school, and try to build schools within villages and communities, so that it would be easier for children to get to school, and not run the risk of being shot or kidnapped. Also, if there was a situation where the school still got attacked, then there would be drills and routines ( like fire drills) where the people inside the school could get to a safer part of the school or community.

In response to Rachel F's question:
We would put safe zones in war inflicted countries, like afghanistan. Afghanistan's schools are being targeted, so children can't go to school without having the risk that their school could be the next bombing target.

In response to Ian, we would make sure the children go to school by funding the parents so that the children don't need to work, and by tying in school with work. For example, the schools could offer small tasks that required basic literacy and would either pay or feed the children.

how would you insure that the "safe zone" rule would be respected by other areas that were invading?

AndyF said...

In response to Allie, the funding money would come from people that donate money and the various aid organizations.

AndyF said...

In response to Brett, the work hours would be longer because the children still need to make some money. There needs to be a balance, but at this place in time, surviving is more important.

darilg said...

in response to demi, the rules in a safe zone would be that no weapons, knifes, bonbs, threting others, and treat onther the way yo u would want to be treated. and if these rules were violated they would have to face charges.

darilg said...

In response to cody, we would have certain punishments for each rule that is violated and certain punishments for how many times they were done.

Why would you makje it so you can not work till you are 15? What if each person in the family had to work to live and put food on the table?

Anonymous said...

David the Idea was that all children could recieve atleast a basic education without interfearence. By the time the child turned 15 they would have recieved their basic education and would have the option to get a job or continue to go to school.

In Response to AlexG's Comment: If a country is in finacial debt it will not have to pay nearly as much as a country that is doing well economicly

In response to Grace. b's Question:
If governements or people do not abide by laws set down for education they will be penolized for it.
