I believe that one of the main reasons global education is a problem is because countries are lacking in something. Many countries have a lack of resources necessary to provide their people with a good education. This could mean a lack of facilities or a lack of supplies, such as paper, books, or pencils. Most of the countries who are suffering from this have national budgets that are already tight and it would be difficult to find the funding to equip them with the necessary resources. Another thing that countries are lacking in is teachers with skills, training and interest. Obviously education is difficult with no one to educate and as I said before, the solution to this problem will be difficult without adequate funding. Another reason for difficulty could be national politics or more specifically, certain kinds of governments. We should keep in mind the possibility that a country’s government might have a negative effect on the countries education. For example, when the Taliban took over Afghanistan they forbade girls from going to school or receiving an education. This put women behind in education and had a negative effect on the country’s education in general. This same example could also be tied to the final issue in global education which is racism, sexism and any other form of cultural isolation. In some countries, discrimination can prevent specific groups from receiving an education. All of these reasons are difficult to solve but not impossible, especially with outside help from other countries.

P.S. Yolanda, I know I went over 7 sentences and I’m sorry, but I though it was important to thoroughly cover the topics. I found most of my information in an article called Issues in Global Education which can be found at: http://www.globaled.org/issues/150/h.html.

I think that the major issues nations worldwide face around education are the lack and quality of teachers, female education and lack of resources/facilities like schools, textbooks, water, electricity or pens. In my group we have found that in Africa one reason why there aren't many teachers is because of the worldwide epidemic HIV/AIDS. This effects people worldwide, but it is truely and blatantly effecting the great population of Africa. I believe that Female Education is such a large problem because of the governments opinions on what females can and cannot do. These three specific problems are known by many people, but they just need to get together and do something about it.

I think that some of the main issues that i have noticed while doing this unit is women's neglection towards an education, child labor, and goverment problems preventing a certain type of person to an education. A womens rite to an education was a big issue with education for all. Many countries that are dictated by a male have these rules preventing them to have an education. Another big one is child labor. The reason child labor is a big one is because the children can't go to school becasue they have to work so they can help there family. The final big issue is problems with government. The reason why government has an effect on education is because the government can make laws preventing education for all. For example, If the government says that everyone with green eyes can't have the rite to an education. All of these issues i have noticed are happening all over the world.

I think one of the major issues that is taking place relating to EFA is that it has not been established how important it is to the success of a country. Because of personal preference, leaders of countries are not trying to create a better atmosphere for academia; they have another viewpoint on what is important and will make them successful. If people in positions of power understood that if they improved educational systems and reformed laws, they could have a wealthier, less-impoverished, and be a more affluent member or the global community. Another issue is lack of funding. Countries that are previously impoverished do not have the funds to get adequate resources, supplies, and facilities. Without proper funding for education reasons, there can be no breakway in getting schools opened and running in poorer countries. The last issue I think is community values, such as religion, that expel members of the community from acquiring a decent education. If community values were somehow altered to have the same commitments, but with different interpretations, I think that EFA would be on a better route to being accomplished.

I think the main problem of global education is lack of funding towards education. Some of the articles I have found said there have been arguments about needing more free education. Some people can not afford to pay for education causing kids not to go to school. This is restricting education for people that can not afford it. For example I have been reading some problems of poverty and education and it has talked about how some people are forced to work all day and even if they had time for education, they couldn't afford it. Another problem that could be solved with more funding in schools is the resources. In some schools, they lack in text books, pens, paper, and pencils. This is causing trouble and making it harder to learn without these materials.

I think that one of the major issues with education for all is the lack of resources. There are so many countries with poor educations, and the leading reason is because of the lack of schools, qualified teachers, or school supplies. Because of this issue, many children around the world are not able to get even a decent basic education. Another issue is illiteracy. If parents are illiterate, they will not be able to get good jobs or support their families. Therefore, their children will not necessarily have access to a good education, and they themselves may even grow up to be illiterate, also. Illiteracy is a major issue because not only does it allow people to learn and be educated, but it allows for communication worldwide.

My opinion is that education is lacking in many areas of the world, and that some key components that are necessary for education are missing. In general some third-world countries have areas where education is missing in general; where the children in some areas only learn how to farm, or how to do other village jobs. In other areas, there can be schools, but very poor quality ones, with little or no resources or facilities. In other areas, students or parents find education unnecessary because they didn’t have it and they are not aware of it’s value. Educational segregation is also a problem in education that will take more than money to fix, and it can be the cause of many generations of people failing to recive an education

I think the major issues nations face around education are lack of facilities, lack of supplies, discrimination of religion, gender, and race and lack of funding. In many places there aren’t even buildings for children to go to be educated. Where there are proper buildings and schools most don’t have even the most common school supplies like pencils, pens, paper, and books. The buildings and supplies are often the result of the lack of funding in war torn, or developing countries and they simply don’t have the funds to pay for schools and supplies. Another global education issue is discrimination. In India the lowest social class, the untouchables are not allowed education and in Afghanistan the Taliban would forbid girls from getting an education.

I think that the major issues that nations face concerning education are lack of resources, lack of teachers, teacher qualification, child soldiers/child labor, and lack of parental support, religion conflicts, and the high rates of student drop-outs. For various reasons schools have trouble acquiring teachers. For example in Africa, there is a high rate of teachers inflicted with HIV or AIDS, causing them to no longer be eligible for teaching. In places where finding teachers is easier, there is still the problem of teacher qualification. Many teachers even if our own community at Moses Brown don’t have certain degrees. Another disadvantage towards schools around the world is that many don’t have the proper resources. For example, Yolanda told us how in Central America many kids treasure a simple pencil, when most middle schoolers at Moses Brown lose pencils weekly. In some countries children become part of the army as an alternative to school. Also some children drop-out of school to go work. Finally, the last major issues nations face around education is parental support and religion conflicts. For some kids there parents don’t agree with there schooling, which makes it difficult. Religion also conflicts with schooling. For example many Muslims don’t believe in sending girls to school. This is hard to change, since it is part of their religion, and they don’t want to change the traditions that have been passed down through many generations.

With thinking about this topic, I think that there are quite a few issues that need to be solved in the near future concerning education in countries with these educational problems. I think that lack of technology in the classrooms, poorly educated teachers, overcrowded classrooms, and lack of materials used by the students are merely some of the issues. I believe that with getting a proper education, it is relevant that you are provided with good quality materials, well-educated teachers, and appropriate individual attention. For example, if students are not provided with well-educated teachers, the consequence will only hurt the students. The students will have trouble flourishing if they do not cover topics in various subjects adequately and in depth. I have neglected to include the important issue of certain groups of people not having the right or ability to attend school. Whether it be the fact that the children are told they should be making money rather than being educated at school, or whether they live too far away to attend any type of school for and for whatever reason cannot attain to the commute. These issues need to be closely examined by people who have the ability to help, so that this epidemic will be slowly washed away by the helping hands of those who are willing.

I think that most of the education issues start with a lack of funding. If a budget isn't big enough, it is hard to get supplies, facilities, teachers, and other things that a school needs to educate people. Another major issue is opposition to education. In many countries, girls or other groups aren't allowed to have an eduation, which means less educated people in the country. Also, if more people were educated, it would help the country's economy because more people could work. Lastly, I think that poverty is lessening the number of poeple who get an education. Many children in poverty have to work to make money for their family instead of going to school, and usually their parents hadn't been educated, either. This could put them in a cycle where they and their children can never get and education.

I believe that there are several major issues nations face regarding education. First, the amount of illiterate adults globally is a massive issue. In India, the illiteracy rate is about 35 percent. In Arab countries, over 41 percent of women are illiterate. It is very unlikely for an illiterate citizen to be a high functioning member of society; so educating citizens to read and write could substantially increase the economy in highly illiterate countries. Second, I believe that educating women is another major issue. Several countries worldwide still do not believe in educating women, which is a ridiculous practice. If such countries are every going to have a good educational system, then they must begin to educate people regardless of their gender (or race, ethnicity, and culture).

I also believe that having children in armies, or being deprived of education due to warfare is an extremely bad practice. If children are raised in an environment where they are not educated, but spend their lives in fear of an army or militia, then they will grow up to be both ignorant and hateful (if they live to be adults). Any quarrels a country is having should not interfere with the education of the country’s children.

I think one of the main issues that global education faces, is the lack of qualified teachers. In a lot of the articles I have read they have stated that a lot of the teachers in the world have not gotten an actual degree in teaching. Therefore the students in these schools are not getting proper education. Another problem the education faces globally is the fact that a lot of schools don’t have the money to supply, textbooks, pens, pencils, and electricity. This then effects the student’s education in multiple ways. There are many other issues that the world faces with education but from my opinion those two issues are very important.

I think that one major issue that nations face having to do with education for all is the lack of technology. I belive lack of technology in schools is a big problem because technolgy helps build stronger students so they can relate to more problems in current news. As well as to know what to do in the future. Another problem I think is the high number count of un-educated teachers. I belive that the poor system across the world for making sure that people wanting to become teachers is failing to meet its standards. I belive this is why over 600,000 children are uneducated and over 500,000 adults are as well.

From my research so far, I believe that the to largest obstacles that stand in the way of Education For All (EFA) are the lack of resources, and the religious and moral beliefs of certain countries that prevent women and/or minorities from recieving education. The problem in many countries is the fact that there is not enough money to get schools set up that are sophisticated enough to give the pupils a primary education. Without enough schools, the teacher:student ratio will be so high that no one will learn. Also, if people live too far away from a school and they have no form of transportation, their children will not have a fair chance to get an education. Textbooks and paper and pencils are also a major thing because without them it is almost impossible to learn.

When people are not allowed to go to school because of gender or religious affiliation it is simply not just morally corrupt, but hurtful to the country. For instance, if women cannot be educated at least around 50% of people in that country are going to repressed and unable to improve that country;while getting stuck in the circle of poverty.

The major global problems to me are lack of teachers and resources, lack of participation and will to succeed, lack of understanding, and lack of parental consent. I these things were achieved, then the world would have solved education and we would not be doing this project. To sum up most of it, we have the greatest lack of resources around the world. If we had more facilities, reliable teachers, paper and pens, textbooks, etc. the worlds developing countries would not be lagging so far behind in their educational progress. In most countries, alot of boys are not educated but in even more countries more and more girls are not being educated. This could be beacause it is against their religion, against the law, or the family needs them to help to run their household. We can not pursuade everyone to agree with girls educatuion, but we can at least persuade the general public. Girls are mostly lacking behind in science and math, so that is where they should be taught the most. I do not have a solution for how, but it is defiantly one of the main problems. Funding is another main issue. Without the funding, the push for Education For All can go nowhere. To supply the necessary funding needed for this to succeed, every willing country could pull out a significant amount of money out of their military serevices and put it into a worldwide fund to satisfy education for all. Even the countries that put nothing in would be treated with the money because they were probabally the ones that need it the most.

In my opinion, the things a successful school atmosphere needs are a supportive community and the opportunity to learn. Without a supportive family, children often feel that dropping out is no big deal, and they don't understand how it will hurt them later in life. Teachers, too, must be enthusiastic. A teacher who teaches people for one purpose, a factory job or some other form of unskilled labor, will not inspire a student. The opportunity to learn is faced by many obstacles; hunger, religion, supplies, technology, and war are just a few. People must be shown why they need to have an education, and then they need to be given the opportunity to have one. There isn't really one singular issue that effects education the most; if there is one thing wrong, everything will fall to pieces.

The lack of resources is one of the biggest issues that effect the advancement of Education For All. HIV/AIDS is a large contributor to the lack of resources. AIDS kills teachers, parents, kids, doctors, etc. It affects everyone in a society where people are not willing to discuss it, learn about it or teach it. There are many teachers who are willing to educate children, but the number of teachers can’t grow because so many are dying because of AIDS. This is leading to a lack of teachers which also makes it difficult to teach the millions of kids who are wanting to go into primary school. If there aren’t enough teachers to teach primary school then there are certainly not enough to teach secondary school, high school, or college. And even more problematic there aren’t enough teachers to train other teachers so the cycle continues go around. The issue of literacy can’t be solved without teachers either. Also HIV/AIDS effects the improvement of female education because, in Africa especially, it is killing parents as well. So when the parents die the girls are usually expected and forced to stay home to take care of the family. When they get married their husband may have contracted HIV/AIDS and because she did not get an education about it she will most likely contract it from him. Then if she has children her children might have it and then she and her husband may die and leave their children as her parents left her. The cycle of problems within Education For All is fueled by HIV/AIDS.
The issue of lack of resources is also still a problem because of the lack of global support. Funds aren’t large enough and not enough people are working to improve it. Governments and communities are also sometimes set against either education for girls or education in general which sometimes makes half their population illiterate and uneducated.

Regarding Education for All, many problems arise. There is a trend to some of these problems, however. The problem is resources. Countries around the world simply don't have enough resources to supply education to everyone. Resources like qualified teachers, paper, writing utensils, electricity, running water, and adequate lessons to teach with. Things that students from Moses Brown take for granted. There are places on earth where people live and have almost no connection to modern life. Think about if the world had an unlimited amount of money to solve the global education problems. It would nearly eliminate the bumps in the road of education. The only other road blocks would be wars going on between countries, and discrimination (things like racism, sexism, classism, etc.).

Throughout my research done, I have found that the major issues nations face today around education include culture differences and lack of vital materials. Many cultures have strict rules, and most of the rules conflict with education. Some cultures may not allow women to receive an education, or some may not allow other races to receive an education. Religion fits into cultures, and religion can cause millions of illiterate people simply by the rules they follow. Also the lack of vital materials is one of the major issues. If schools around the world for instance can not afford proper desks or chairs, or even pencils and paper, usually do not function well. Also since many nations can not afford technology for students, it separates those nations further from the 'successful' nations. For example, when the United States is making more computers and televisions, and Nepal is not moving forward as much, there is a large gap between the two cultures, which brings the world more apart. When some countries are succeeding, others are struggling, and that is what separates people. These issues I think are crucial to the distress around education.

I think that the biggest global educational issues are womens education (or the lack thereof), and supplies for schools.
Womens education is a huge problem worldwide, but especially in the middle east. In many countries, women are not allowed to be educated by law. The percent of educated people in the population of these countries is low at best and the family income is much smaller than it could be. Women account for about 50% of the population of most countries. If women were to be educated or were even just offered that chance to an education, the national average income would be much bigger, and, according to my research, would have lower pregnancy rates, higher live birth rates, longer life spans, higher income and healthier children.
The other biggest global educational issue is, in my opinion, the lack of school supplies and resources for schools. Many potential students do not even have access to the actual building of a school. If around 3 trillion dollars were raised by various countries, there would be enough money to build schools in areas so people could reach them and get supplies for all of those schools to teach from preschool to 8th grade.

I think that the biggest problems in education is the lack of supplies and qualified teachers. In most classrooms they lack the necessary supplies of paper, pencils, books, desks, tables, chalkboards and other supplies that are deemed necessary to actually give a basic education, never mind an extended one. Even though some countries don't think they have enough money to invest in their education, they won't be able to advance in technology at all if they don't give their citizens an education and they will stay poor for a very long time. Also i read an article about the universities in Nigeria which stated that they didn't have enough sleeping spaces, each department had 2-3 computers if they were lucky and all of the bathroom facilities were disgusting. The main reason why i think that happened was because they made it so there was no tuition and the university was free for everyone, which made more people able to attend it but in turn it made it a much worse university so the people that could afford it have to go out of country to get an advanced education. The lack of qualified teachers is an obvious problem that is especially noted, when sometimes it is people who only have an education that is one or two grades above the one that they're teaching.

Based on the research I have found under the topic of Education For All I think the major issues nations around the world face in education are: lack of quality teacher, sufficient facilities and materials, lack of funding from the government, and lack of education based on race, gender, etc. First and fore-most is you cannot have an adequate education without trained and professional teachers, and unless those teachers have the proper materials to teach whatever is being learned is not effective without the right resources. Without funding from the nation, school systems cannot function. However, for most countries education is not always on the top of the list. Things like the military usually are higher on the list than education. Also, some countries are blaming the poor stauts on their citizens and their lack of employment when they were not allowed to get an education in the first place becasue of their race, class, or gender. This means countries need more money/resources, but much of the battle can be fought internally. In addition to trained teachers and text books there need to be students. Countries need to disregard somebody's gender for example and let them get the education that they need and deserve.

I feel that the issues that most grealty effect the education globally today are the technology the schools use, the techers intelligence and finally the desire to go to school. Some schools do not have computers, pencils, or any writing utensils. This is a problem because the kids cannot take notes and review what they have learned. In some schools the problem is that the techers dont know what there talking about. These teachers don't have a degree, or they dont have a degree in what there teching. The final issue i think is stopping kids from going to school is the violence that goes on near there school (for example the kids in Iraq). All over the world these issues take place everyday and if we dont do something those kids will never get a good education.

sry yolanda but my microsoft word is acting weird so im sorry if there are any spelling mistakes.

The biggest problem most countries have with education is that many countries do not have the resources in one way or another to put together a proper system to give people basic education. This happens for many reasons one of which is that a country is in a war zone and has not had any schools open since the war began. Another reason that prevents people from getting an education is that many are too poor to afford to pay for education. Some contries can not even afford to properly house and feed many of it inhabitants so working on an education system is out of the question until these other problems are addressed. Many countries cannot establish a system for education because of they lack a government which can fully suport their country. They are too busy fighting each other to try to set up a good system for educating the children. Because of war and things they do not have teachers or a place to teach the kids. They do not have books. Some of the children do not even have families to make them go to school or to help them with their homework. Some of the children can't go to school because they have to work to help feed their families and by the time they can go to school they are too old. The countries and the families are too poor to let them go to school.

PS. Sorry I turned this in so late at night I was having problems with the logging on the blog

believe that there are two major problems regarding education for all. These problems are hindrances to the advancement of free, quality, global education available to all people. It is because of these problems that many countries have low literacy rates and uneducated citizens.
First, there are almost never enough resources for schools or educational facilities to function properly or -in some cases- at all. The disparity in quality in education between rich and poor schools occurs because of lack of resources. Money allows schools to provide many things that are essential to a good education such as proper facilities, high quality teachers, extra-curricular activities and materials (text books, pencils, paper, chalkboards).
Second, prevention or fear to go to school because of things such as racism and sexism. In some countries, religion is the underlying factor in the quality of education a child will receive. Probably the most common place a discrepancy in quality of education occurs is in social class and wealth. Even in countries such as the United States where free, public education is offered, people with more money or class get better education. War also gives children a fear to go school. A country should not let military disputes interfere with the education it offers it's citizens

I think that one of the major issues regarding education for all is the lack of resources. Many poor countries lack facilities, computers, and other school supplies. Since these countries lack facilities, the demand is larger than the supply for education. There is not enough room or resources for the number of children that want to attend school. Another major problem is child soldiers. In countries such as Sudan, and Afghanistan, children are forced to become soldiers or work to support their family. These children don't get an opportunity to get an education. Until the various problems are solved, the educational systems of these countries will not improve.

I think that the major problems in education are found in and out of the school environment. Problems in schools include un- qualified teachers, not enough materials for all, or inadequate buildings. Problems out of school include war, sicknesses and children having to work to support their families. All of these problems are affecting the outcome of the kids in the future. I think that these are some of the major problems identified under the topic of education for all.

I Belive one of the main issues nations face around education is the lack of school funding. For inctance in Africa there are many very unsophisticated schools houses with only 1 or 2 teachers in them, if the government or another country helped provide the schools with money they could help the schools hire more teachers and buy new school books. Another issue is that in certain countrys education is not required in my own opinion education should be required in all countries. And children in certan countries like Africa should not be taken out of school to become child soliders and to fight in wars. These are some of the main issues facing education for all in my opinon.

Dominique said...

There are many problems that face education for all. There is the lack of resources [like teachers, text books, schools, etc.] With out qualified teachers to teach children and adults, then the education that is being taught is not as good as it could be for the students. War is another big issue, for example:in Afghanastan, the schools were being targeted because the Taliban didnt want to have the people, and women especially, educated. As well as those two problems there is also the problem with child labor. Child labor and war kind of fit together, in the way that children are forced to work either as child soldiers, or to work in the manufacturing of guns and other artillery during the war/wars. Children who are either forced to work, or choose to, lose their education because they have to or want to work in order to support their families/war. Although I have mentioned only three major subjects on education for all, there are many more that face the topic. There are obstacles that have to be overcome in order to truly get an education for all.

Throughout my research over the school year the main issues which I think are the most important regarding education is the lack of resources, the lack of enforcement by governments, and war.
Because of the lack of resources, education can not be achieved at its fullest. Even if schools are set up, they sometimes lack the materials needed to completely educate its pupils. This may be because of poverty, because the money may be spent on other things, or because of war.

Another issue is the lack of enforcement. Some government around the world do have strict guidelines on when a child should stop recieving an education. Sometimes the governments of countries don't bother spending their money on schooling, instead of war.

Lastly, war is a major issue because it may physicaly prevent the children going to school, or it may just scare them from going. Also, in war zones, people cannot participape while they're being attacked. War also cuts off funds to education from the government.

Overall these are the main problems which is saw throughout my research.

I think some of major issues in global education is the lack of resources and money. A lot of countries around the world are not supplying enough money towards schools for an education. Each country should be taking care there people by supporting them with an education. The major reason why people aren’t becoming educated, is because of lack of schools and supplies, teachers, and mostly money. This is why children around the world are not receiving an education each day. Also poverty is another reason for children because they don’t have enough money and can’t afford it. These are the major issues of global education that I think are important.
